As I lay in my hospital bed for yet another issue, I can't help but think about cars. I'm in the middle of buying a car for my girl and I was supposed to get the money to the owner but couldn't because my face swole up like a golf ball. Of coarse since I have Sickle Cell sc disease they admitted me since any infection could be life threatening. It was a simple cellulitis scare but I'm in a room with a man with colon cancer, I mean hearing all the complications this man is going through behind the curtain next to me is crazy. He's having complications with his colostomy bag and needs the nurse to wash him and feed him his Ritalin, and I'm complaining about a bump on my jaw and the fact that I'm not driving our new bimmer yet. This coupled with the earth quake that hit VA and shook Nyc yesterday brings me to a revelation. I can't stress anymore, I mean it's been a TOUGH week... My left eye filled up with blood again rendering me blind in it until the blood evaporates which usually takes about 7 months to clear up but it's even worse since the extra tension from the blood washing around in there could possibly tug the retina from the optical nerve. But I have to let go and let god handle it, as cynical as I am about churches being simply businesses (going to allen, Floyd Flakes church doesn't help) I have to realize that we are not in control, we just are not. We're passengers in a really fast moving car, with no steering wheel brake or gas pedal within reach, we can only give directional input. My health complications have effected every aspect of my life since day one, I've lost great jobs, gotten rid of girlfriends, and even missed out on a full Scholarship to R.I.S.D due to the schools distance away from my doctors. It's not fair but it's not colon caner either I can't harp on where I would be if not for this disease, I'm still here and that means there's time to turn it around. So you know what I'm going to write a lil' post in my blog (that not many follow and will read) pick my self back up and keep it moving. We all have a story to tell and this just makes mine a little more interesting.

So, April 2nd marked Dyno day at Tach Motor Works which included some barbecue, great cars and models. The highlight of the day I would have to say was the impromptu photo shoot "Erkel" (one of the guys in charge) put together with three Supras and some models. It was really cool to be around fellow car enthusiasts and just enjoy the company on a luckily gorgeous day. The two previous days had been full of freakish snowy, rainy, hail type weather and this day was a cool but sunny 55 degrees out. Check the pics and enjoy how we do it on the east coast, since we rarely get as much import enthusiast coverage as the west.

Mitsubishi has decided to discontinue their evolution line-up. Gayu Eusegi, Mitsubishi's global product manager stated that the 10 will be the last Evolution, the brand will be focusing on a range of EV models. It's unfortunate but a lot of sports cars have succumb to the same fate, this doesn't mean that the aftermarket for them will cease to produce exciting products. The supra, rx-7, integra, s2000 etc all live on in the after market.

Tips on how to Make straight your upside-down auto loan financial status

With the ever changing economic status of this day and age does age old art of modifying your car still make any sense? This question is one of heated debate, to some it's an irresponsible use of money thrown to the wind on an ever depreciating asset. To others it's an art form, an extention of their creativity (or manhood) that in a certain way brings value to a car. Think about it, if I treat my car as a show car and only put 5k miles on it per year AND pay extra towards the principle amount that I owe per month then I'm able to retain somewhat of the cars value until I'm
A: either ready to trade it in for something better (there's always something better) at Which point I will owe less then the car is worth which equals equity towards the trade in.
B: Be in a better position to refinance the car for a lower monthly payment, freeing up money for mods and or ultimately pay off the loan much sooner provided there is no penalty for doing so with your bank.

The fact of the matter is that in a study conducted in 2010 by, "bankrate" it showed that nearly 40% of Americans are upside down on their vehicle. Meaning that they owe more then the vehicle is worth, to offset that a few options are available.

1. Pay more towards your principal amount monthly. Paying the loan down quicker will get you out of the upside down financial hole.

2. Refinance for a shorter term. Paying low drawn out payments over a long period of time will only add to your upside down status. For instance, talk to your lender about moving from a 7 year to a 4 year term. The payments will be higher but end much sooner. Kind of like ripping off a band aid fast as opposed to slow and painfully.

3. Shop for better interest rates from different lenders other then those that work for dealerships, credit unions offer the best rates in my experience. Better rates will enable your money to work harder for you, paying on less interest and more principal also making your monthly payments much lower.

4. Don't fall victim to, "buy now with no payments until next year" offers. Contact your lender and start making payments right away.

5. Resist the temptation to trade-in the car to a dealership for another car, this is a lose win situation because the dealer will only do it to get you into a more expensive vehicle and still sell your previous vehicle for 10% more then the value they gave you for it. Most often they will add the negative equity on to your newer car putting you further upside down.

Lastly, I don't reccomend financing a car period, take the same money that you would put down on it and purchase a condo, or rental property and then lease your car. Which doesn't coincide with modding at all but if you must mod a car get a relatively inexpensive one that you can see yourself still being content with 5-10 years down the line with ample potential for performance and visual upgrades. Think best bang for the buck and remember your credit is your most important factor, monitor and protect it in anyway possible.

The subies were out in full effect, with dj slick's clean hatch catching eyes all day. He was running a 35R and about 450 awp outfitted with a fresh set of Brides, Takata harneses, amp and subwoofer in the rear and a plethora of carbon fiber everywhere.

As well as a brand spanking new wide body sedan, the owner felt ashamed when someone asked how much he paid for it. I told him not to answer such a rude question but instead he said 45k out the door. Which solidified that the day when evo's and wrx's were cheap are now gone!

I thoroughly washed, clayed & waxed my 10 the night before but due to my fading clutch I decided not to drive it since it took me safely to Delaware and back the weekend before the clutch is on it's last leg. So I took the 328xi but here is my baby clean, outfitted with do-luck & my brothers UA6 hotness!

This could be the last iteration of the evolution, Mitsubishi is slowly going away from is performance roots and becoming more and more green. With the closing of Ralliart, we are in the last days of pure spirited cars it would be interesting to see what Mitsu could do with a hybrid evo. As long as it still performs like an evo I'm on board, looks a hell of a lot better then a ms3 actually it reminds me of a colt. Stay tuned for my review of the outlander sport dropping next month.

"To make a long story short, we spent 2 sessions working on setup and then laid down a hot lap of 2:00.1 -- the best for an N54 car so far. What's really impressive is that this 335i is a 4-door with full interior/AC/stereo/etc on DOT tires and no wings/aero work. It is a daily driver with ~45,000 miles on the clock, not a dedicated track car. For it to run a 2:00.1 is very impressive to me (and to everyone else who saw it!).

Unfortunately we did not get the fastest lap on video (SD card ran out of memory), but we did get a lazy 2:01.1. Here is some video from the day, hope you enjoy it"!

E-Spec...Possibly My New Tuner

So I met with a possible new tuner today, he goes by the name Erkel and is an affiliate of, "Top Level Performance". You may or may not have seen his cars at the track or on youtube with, "E-spec" on them but we met up for a bit tonight and took a drive to asses a game plan for my 10 and things, we may begin as soon as this week if the weather permits. He's a very smart guy and I'm eager to get started, here is a vid of him in action.

Deer Park, Long Island is the new home to legendary JDM importer and monster on the H.I.N circuit Fizz autosports. They just moved from Bayside, NY to Deer Park, Long island and threw a freezing bbq bash! It was a perfectly timed event since I just got over H1N1 & just beat the campaign on modern warefare2! If you love jdm and were not there, I feel sorry for you. Rob was doing his thing on the grill and Kenny was answering questions and selling like crazy, I won an enkie tee shirt during the raffle... Finances are on simmer right now but I believe I have found the next vehicle I want to own. I am going to keep the evo as well as purchase the Jeep grand Cherokee Srt-8! Wifee and I were chillin yesterday and decided to hit up the local mopar dealer to check out the Jeep out front. Boy was I surprised how Smooth a ride it offered with no cabin noise and all the gadgets a techie could wish for. Navigation, bluetooth a dvd screen in the rear, heated seats, stability control, a button to raise the location of the gas pedal. Did I forget to mention, tiptronic... I hit the pedal and shifted when I wanted and that FUCKING TRUCK BOOGIES! It's a beast and will be wifees car aka my second car lol.

Evo X custom 9 master cyl. conversion pt.2

During tough times, certain people shine through and DG Motors
is one of the few. After my clutch master cyl. broke and I was stuck
in the Lincoln tunnel, I called a local car shop to see about getting
it fixed and they said they would call me back with a price. I called
DG right after, and they told me about the 9 master cyl. conversion.
Got my car towed over there, the weekend went by and voila! The
geniuses did it again, my car feels great with almost no change in
pedal height with a nice firm pedal feel. No more worries of this
thing breaking, thanks again DG.

p.s. I'm still waiting on that local shop to call me back with a price
I guess they forgot. lol

The pics show the new evo 9 master cyl. the braided clutch line &
the new clutch pedal with welded plate. Anyone that has or is
interested in the evo x MUST contact DG Motors to have the "Evo
9 clutch master cyl. replacement" done. It's a more efficient option
then the ams reinforcement ring which doesn't solve the problem
but only temporarily fixes it like a band aid. Shout to ams though
I love their products.

Yes you heard it correctly. DG Motor's teamed up with MB Racing to tune the World's highest hp stock block evo x on 93 Octane so I guess you can say we killed 2 birds with one stone! With 29psi we made 629whp and 440wtq!

Destroy & Rebuild it seemed a proper title for the current situation my best friend is going through with his x right now. After some modding and a fresh tune, a miss shift cause the damage you see before you. I was almost brought to tears, as he told me the situation... "I went from first to second and then missed third, not knowing It didn't get all the way into third I stepped on the gas as to continue accelerating and revved all the way to 9k." The engine made a "pop" sound and shut down. Upon looking at the head and pistons it seems like 1 & 4 are done, the pistons came up and hit the spark plugs, breaking them. The damage seems immense but the rebuild will feature stronger rods, pistons and cams... Stay tuned because Jamar along with our shop DG Motors are currently rebuilding a MONSTER!

Lincoln Tunnel NIGHTMARE UPDATE! Pt. 2

After my horrible track experience this past Sunday 8-30-09 I broke my clutch master cylinder and had to be towed out of the Lincoln Tunnel it was a fucking NIGHTMARE! This is the piece that snapped in half, after a few days of phone calls to various shops I came to the conclusion that there were three options... Replace the piece with the same stock plastic crap for the cheapest amount or option two replace it with the same plastic crap adding on the ams reinforcement ring for about a total of $350 which was what I was leaning towards but AMS noted that breakage may still occur. Option three, came from an amazing shop called DG Motors in which they came up with a design to replace the plastic evo X master cyl. with a near bulletproof metal evo IX master cyl. at the cost of $500. After more research, I opted for #3 and will have it completed by wednesday. Pete & Pete from DG Motors informed me that the evo x clutch master cly. is the weakest point of the x's drive train when aftermarket clutches start coming into play, and the "IX transplant" makes it so that you won't have to worry about it breaking ever again. They said their own shop car went through two stock master cylinders before they outsourced this idea from "sloanz" and started implementing it. I can't lie, this latest issue may have been the straw that broke the camels back... I've never thought so much about trading my car in before, when finances get a little better this blog may become more devoted to an e90... Shout to the fellas at DG once again for keeping me on the road with as little downtime as possible, Erick, Pete & Big Pete. I've been doing a lot of thinking... weather I should save money to mod or enter racing events to gain experience, and after my horrible track experience this past Sunday 8-30-09 it's all about the mods from now on! The fellas and I hit up E-Town for the annual, "import vs muscle" day and on top of imports losing I broke my clutch master cylinder and had to be towed out of the Lincoln Tunnel it was a fucking NIGHTMARE!

6th Annual Evo vs STI Event!

It was an amazing, and tiresome day. Although all the cars were heat soaked due in part to the 100 degree weather, every challenger gave it their all including myself. In the Evo/Sti Bracket race category I managed to reach the 4th out of 6 rounds before I was taken down by a sick fast Subaru 3.0R turbo Legacy! I got to meet Martin Musial of Ams and see in person "the worlds fastest evo 8" and watch TurboTrix, Sean Ivey, Norman aka Speedy of Racing Results and many others perform on the quarter mile strip it was very impressive. We Drank lots of bottles of water, and shared mad stories well worth the wait all year! Now onto the pics, please enjoy and spread the word about i-tuner.blogspot.com. Below is a video of my best 1/4 mile time to date, 12.8 I'd like to thank DG motors, Racing Results, Fizz Autosports, Ams & turbotrix for helping me reach 12's.

One of the worst days of my life!

My first accident occurred last Saturday. First and foremost I thank god that no one involved was hurt! It occurred on the cross island parkway, as I was moving from the center lane to the fast lane the person in front of me abruptly hit the brakes because someone cut him off. Going only 55 mph the collision was minor and I was immediately able to gain control of the car. None of the air bags deployed, and I was able to veer off to the slow lane with my hazards on. There, we waited exchanging insurance information until the police officers and tow trucks came. I called my parents who also accompanied me to the body shop, their worrisome emotions make for some interesting dialog in the video below.
My emotions were all jumbled up, as my girlfriend screamed upon contact with the other vehicle, the last thing I would want to happen is for my being responsible for her injury. All in all, the damage isn't all that bad I'll require a new front bumper and fender and front right rim. On the positive side of things if you've ever owned a Mitsubishi you know how cheap the paint is, I'll have all those little chip marks blended out and made mint once the body shop finishes it's magic. Thanks to the officers that came to the scene that were really good guys that helped calm everyone down also, the tow truck drivers and Merrick Road Collision they do excellent work and came highly recommended. After dropping off my car, the owner took me in the back to see the Audi RS4, Porsche's and Mercedes he was currently working on to assure me that my car is in good hands. So, as of now I'm driving the beater and very happy that I came out of the situation unscathed because their are no body shops for people. So follow my blog and I'll update when my X is back on the road & you know I'll keep you posted on my next set of mods. Hint, Carbon fiber body kit ;)

With the amazing success of the Team Orange rear wheel drive conversion Evo IX, it would only be a matter of time before Nobushige Kumakubo delivered his X to JUN Automotive for round two. There, the amazing fabrication work of Koyama and his team was implemented once again, birthing another wicked AWD to RWD Drift Conversion! The stock mid engine setup was scrapped for a longer layout, as well as the addition of forged aluminum pistons and a 97mm stoker kit. Can't forget about the GReddy TD06SH-25G turbo and intercooler, at the heart of this beast.

It's been a little while, that's cause I've been in the Caribbean. So enjoy a few pics, this was my first time in Jamaica so I didn't get to explore any of the car scene. I did however see my first evo 5 in person and an evo 8, no pics unfortunately as they whizzed by way to fast to capture. On observation, I noticed that everyone there drives like maniacs as opposed to United States standards. The officials are all over it though, as they wait by bus stops with radar and machine guns drawn.

The Lancer Evolution's latest iteration is currently my favorite, but I wanted to take a brief look into its humble and furious beginnings. I, TUNER: What was the inspiration behind the short film "bmw 130i tii"?
Dennis: I always wanted to have a special video of my car. Unfortunately, there were not many companies in Germany that were able to come up with great production quality without being to expensive. So I began to search good quality, with high achievements and favorable content. That is how I bumped into the boys of "FORMAT67". The videos on their homepage persuaded me fully and completely.

I, TUNER: They do have some amazing quality videos, what mods do you have?

All Bumper Guards are NOT Created Equal!

For my first post I wanted to define a few terms that some may not be to familiar with such as "JDM" and what being a "Tuner" is all about but, when I got home this little beauty was at my door and I thought this would be a great entry point. My new Bumper Guard, I know what your thinking. This guys supposed to be a car expert and he's talking about bumper guards? My response is, yes it is very important, and it is something that can potentially guard your beloved vehicle from a lot of expensive paint and body damage.

After gaining two lovely scratches on my rear bumper and having a previous bumper guard stolen I did some research and found this, "Parking Armor" it's 13" tall and 48" wide with 2" thick impact foam. It also features steel reinforced straps that reduce it's likely hood of being stolen.

The old adage applies here, you get what you pay for as it retails for around $60.00 US while it's cheaper competitors are just that, Cheaper coming in at about $40.00 US.

My only other concern was not how well it fit on my bumper but how well this puppy would fit into my trunk due to the Evolution X's tiny trunk area, and it is massive but it fits snug and not to dominating. All and all I give it 5 out of 5 thus far with it's top notch stitching and quality materials, stay locked in and I'll keep updating on how my," Parking armor" is holding up.
